WHO WE ARE
3Square’s main business is investing in real estate which is leased to, or owned with, our restaurant partners. More specifically, we’re in the business of identifying under-utilized properties, and improving these properties by providing capital for restaurant infrastructure and then matching these properties with one of our restaurant partners. We have the experience and capital to fulfill this mission, and a track record of improving assets and providing valuable amenities for the communities in which we do business.
There are many stories about the origins of the term “three square meals a day.” We found that the use of the term “square” to mean honest and straightforward dates back to at least the 16th century. The expression “three square meals a day” dates back to the mid-19th century. A “square meal” first appeared in print in 1856 in an ad for the Hope and Neptune restaurant, which stated, “We can promise all who patronize us that they can always get a hearty welcome and ‘square meal’ at the Hope and Neptune. Oyster, chicken and game suppers prepared at short notice.” From here, the term was used by farmhands, whose deal with their employers usually included room and board. In such an arrangement, if the board offered wasn’t three full, complete meals – “three squares a day” – it wasn’t a “square deal.” Therefore, if you achieved “THREE SQUARE MEALS A DAY”, you were being treated fairly and you were doing very well. We chose to name our company 3Square because it reflects our values of honest and straightforward dealings with our partners and our belief that, with 3Square we, as well as all of our partners, can do very well.
